Governor Quinn signed two new laws Monday that are supposed to make schools safer in Illinois.

School officials will now be able to share juvenile criminal records under the new law.

The legislation stems from an attack on an Elgin teacher who lost an eye in 2008.

That's when a student under investigation for two other violent attacks came at the teacher with a knife.

The new law goes into effect next year.

Another law signed by the governor today regarding education.

This one creates the enhance physical education task force in Illinois.

A group to examine existing physical education programs to better improve the health of Illinois students.

This new law goes into effect immediately.
