TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A local group hopes to help kids start off school with the right materials.

The Breakfast Optimist Club today donated money to the Ryves Youth Center, 14th & Chestnut Community Center, and the Salvation Army.

The groups will use the money to make sure kids they serve start school with the needed supplies.

It's just one of the many things the club does each year to help out local kids.

"By us doing this, where we can provide the backpacks or the paper or the pencils, or whatever the needs are you know that's money that family may be able to use for groceries," says Greg Ewing, Breakfast Optimist Club President.

Each group received a check for $600, all to go towards the purchase of school supplies.
