WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Indiana and 35 other states encouraged teachers to embrace technology in their classrooms, February 1st.

It's all part of Digital Learning Day across the country.

Vigo County middle schools are taking part in a pilot program with a career-based, digital classroom.

They don’t have textbooks, chalkboard or paper.

All of the work is done on tablets and computers.

The program allows the students to track their interests and plan their careers and college over the next several years.

"There are things you can't do with a cell phone or a computer but you can use those items to introduce those other concepts and get them excited,” West Vigo Middle School Curriculum Director Doug Dillion said.

The pilot program is free to the schools.

Vigo County Schools say they plan to make more of their courses paperless and technology-based in the future.
