TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A $200 million mistake in the Indiana budget is bringing over $3 million to Vigo County.
Some officials News 10 spoke with were surprised by the mistake.
Now that the money's coming back, everyone's wondering where it's going next.
It even surprised one of it’s destinations.
"We had no idea this was coming,” the Director of the Vigo County Public Libraries said. “It's a windfall and we'll be very grateful to receive it."
Nancy Dowell tells News 10 the Vigo County Public Library works off a $6.4 million budget.
This new money will be put to good use.
"We have a long list of upcoming projects,” Dowell said.
"For us it's going to mean hopefully some additional money in our rainy day fund which will allow us to cover any emergencies that come up."
"We are planning a roof replacement and siding."
"It has to be done anyways. We're undergoing a small lobby renovation project, replacing the carpet."
As of now, no one knows exactly where the money will land, as well as the exact dollar amounts.
They do believe that some extra cash is coming their way.
"It's a big plus"
Unfortunately for the library, this additional money they expect won't fully make up for what's lost annually on the property tax cap.
