SULLIVAN CO., Ind. (WTHI) - Update:

John R. Chesterfield, 17, Lewis, was pronounced dead after being transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

An autopsy was performed on June 20, 2012, in Marion County.

The preliminary cause of death was reported as blunt force trauma to the head, pending final toxicology results.

Chesterfield was the only reported injury in the incident, and drugs/alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

A teenager died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

The crash occurred Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m. on C.R. 1200 N. in Sullivan Co., about 2.5 miles west of Lewis, IN.

The Sullivan Co. Sheriff’s Department received a call Sunday afternoon from a motorist, who reported the unoccupied ATV and an unresponsive person in the roadway.

No other vehicles were reported to have been involved.

Emergency services personnel from the Sullivan Fire Department, Thunderbird Fire Department, and Hymera Fire Department responded to the call.

The only victim in the single ATV crash was a 17-year-old male from Lewis, IN.

The victim was transported from the scene to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis via airlift for severe head trauma.

He later died from the injuries sustained from the incident.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by Indiana Conservation Officers, assisted by the Sullivan Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and Hymera Police Dept.

An autopsy is scheduled at the Marion Co. Coroner’s Office Tuesday morning.
