Second charged with 2009 arson

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A second man has been charged with arson in connection with a 2009 fire that destroyed one home and damaged two others on Terre Haute’s north side.

In October, Police arrested Ariel Childress in connection with a series of burglaries. While speaking with investigators Childress told police that he and another man, Dustin Budd, had started the 2009 fire by dropping a lit cigarette into a pile of leaves outside a vacant house.

Childress said they added leaves and debris, building the fire which eventually caught the home on fire.

Childress was charged with arson.

On Thursday, Budd was also arrested on a juvenile warrant, since he had been a minor at the time of the fire. Budd is now 19 years of age according to arrest records.
