Shots fired in Seelyville, 1 in custody

SEELYVILLE, Ind. (WTHI) - Shots fired in Seelyville Tuesday evening.

More then a dozen police officers blocked the entryway to Woodvale Street, surrounding the home of Jordan Allen.

A call came in around 6:40 pm, saying that Allen was intoxicated and tried to physically batter his father with deer antlers. 

Allen then retrieved a shotgun. That is when his parents and another witness ran down the road, and called authorities. 

According to police, several shots were fired, even after the first group of law enforcement arrived.

Allen then retreated inside the home.

The Terre Haute Police Special Response Team was called, and convinced Allen to put down the gun and give himself up.

“Anytime you have an active shooter such as that that retreats back inside the home you know, the situation becomes a lot more dangerous for not only the law enforcement, but also the general public. Discharging a firearm in a neighborhood is dangerous in and of itself, as well as the fact that he was also intoxicated,” Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing told News 10.

Allen’s neighbors say they haven’t had any problems with him. His mother did not want to go on camera, but said he’s not a bad man; he was just under the influence and acting recklessly.

Jordan Allen will be charged with felony criminal recklessness and public intoxication.

He is due in court Wednesday morning.
