VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A man appears in court after jumping into the Wabash River to get away from police.

Lee Bemis was formally charged Monday.

Police said Bemis and another suspect drove away from police after they were pulled over for a traffic stop Friday night.

Then the suspects crashed their car on the bridge crossing the Wabash River.

Police said Bemis then jumped into the river, while the other suspect ran away.

Bemis faces several alcohol-related charges and two counts of resisting law enforcement.

His jury trial is set for June 28.

He remains in jail on $50,000.

Police have not released any information on the other suspect at this time.
