TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - More than a week after responding to a stabbing near the intersection of 14 th and Ohio Streets in Terre Haute, police said Wednesday they are still investigating the case.
Authorities have released few details on the case but have said that one person was hospitalized after the incident.
Family and friends of the people involved in the incident have expressed concern that no one has been arrested or charged with a crime in the case, and they have taken their complaints to social media Web sites.
Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse said his department is still investigating the case, but he said officers have received conflicting reports from witnesses. Plasse also said, given those conflicting reports, police need to finish their investigation before presenting their findings to prosecutors.
“If we don’t do a thorough investigation, if you go to prosecute that case, it’s going to be a weak case,” Plasse said. “You want to have the case as solid as you can before you take it to the prosecutor.”
Meanwhile, Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt said the case remains a priority.
“We’re taking this case very seriously,” Modesitt said. “There was a witness statement taken yesterday. There was one taken, I believe, the day before. We are having some analysis done by the state police lab. So the case is definitely not forgotten.”
Police said the people involved in the incident knew each other.
