NEWTON, Ill. (WTHI) - Netwon Police responded to a call of a man threatening two people with a weapon at their residence in Newton.
According to the official release,Police said Ryan Schoop, 32, of Newton allegedly threatened two people in their home, and fled the scene before Police arrived.
Newton Police proceeded to Schoop's home at 400 Goble St. at which he barricaded himself. It's not known how long this standoff lasted, or if any shots were fired; however, we do know that Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System SWAT members and various other agencies were called in to assist with the situation.
Multiple Police Officers moved into the residence and arrested Schoop, initially charging him with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Other charges are pending, as Newton Police continue their investigation.
Schoop is being held at the Jasper County Jail awaiting bond.
