Officers breached home, arrested suspect in Charleston, Ill.

Multiple attempts to contact suspect failed.

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTHI) - Charleston Police Officers and Coles County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call from a residence at 1123 Woodlawn in Charleston, Ill. about a male suspect in the back yard of the residence, in possession of a firearm.

Upon arrival, Officers were able to identify Michael J. Campbell, 22, as the suspect in question and found that he entered the home before they arrived.

Officers surrounded home to encapsulate the situation. Neighboring residents were also asked to stay inside their homes until the situation subsided.

The Officers on scene made multiple attempts to get in contact with Campbell to deter the situation; however, all attempts were unsuccessful. As a result, the Officers took the proper precautions and contacted the Coles County Crisis Response team.

After the CCCR arrived on the scene, they breached the home and were able to arrest Campbell without any incident.

Campbell posted bond on numerous misdemeanor offenses, which included Unlawful Use of Weapons.
