Correctional officer arrested for drug trafficking with an inmate

PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (WTHI) - A correctional officer at the Putnamville Correctional Facility was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs to an inmate.

On Saturday around 5:45 p.m., Andreas Kirby, 20, of Crawfordsville, Ind., was stopped by staff at the PCF after he tripped an alarm at one of the metal detector checkpoints while he was reporting for work.  As a precaution, Correctional Officer James Alexander conducted a second scan, which triggered the alarm again.

According to a release from the Putnamville Correctional Facility, after the second alarm, staff supervisors were notified and Officer Troy Keith responded.  Keith then proceeded to read Kirby his Miranda Rights and conducted an interview.

During the interview, Kirby surrendered three packages that had been concealed in his groin area and identified offender Vincent Price as the intended recipient.

Continuing the investigation, officers determined the packages contained Suboxone, marijuana, cocaine and Xanax.

According to the release, Kirby was taken to the Putnam County Jail, charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Trafficking with an Inmate.

Inmate Price, 31, from Indianapolis, is currently serving multiple sentences for Dealing and Possession of Cocaine.  Jail staff informed us that he is being held in Administrative Segregation and could face criminal charges pending the outcome of an investigation.
