A new Illinois law will make it harder for fugitives to hide from police.

The new measure closes the loophole that exempts relatives from punishment if they aid a wanted family member.

Under the new law, family members will face felony charges if they help a fugitive avoid capture.

If convicted, they could receive up to three years in jail and a $25,000 fine.

The law goes into effect January 1st.

Fourteen states have similar laws.
