New details on Monday stabbing

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - One man is recovering and another is arrested after an early-morning stabbing on Terre Haute’s north side.

Early Monday morning, police were called to the intersection of 19 ^th and Locust Streets, on a report that one man had been stabbed.

When they arrived on the scene, they found a man identified as Devlin Decker lying on the ground while bystanders held pressure against his stab wounds. Police said when they spoke with Decker, Decker told them “F--- you, I’m no snitch … I did it to myself.”

Decker was taken to Union Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released, authorities said.

Meanwhile, a worker at a nearby bar told police he had seen Decker arguing with another man, identified as Phillip Evans, who lived in a nearby apartment.

Police said they followed a trail of blood to Evans’ apartment where they found the doors locked.

Evans reportedly yelled at police through a second-floor window, saying, “I’ll kill you if you come in … I’ll take at least one of you out with me.”

Police said Evans also claimed to have a gun and threw beer bottles out a window yelling “grenade.”

After speaking with police for about one hour, Evans left his apartment and was arrested. He faces a preliminary charge of intimidation, but he has not been accused of the stabbing itself.

In court Thursday, Evans apologized for the incident that happened at his apartment, though he said the incident did not happen exactly as it was reported by police.

“I did say and do a few things … that I shouldn’t have said,” Evans said. “On no other front was anything wrong.”

Evans is being held in the Vigo County Jail on a $35,000 cash bond.
