TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A Vigo County man was sentenced to suspended prison time and work release Monday on separate charges of beating an elderly woman and burglary.
Police arrested Kyle Marvel, 21, in August 2012 on allegations he beat 74-year-old Judith Maples. Maples told police she saw Marvel urinating outside and that, when she told Marvel to cover himself, he beat her.
At the time, Marvel was already on a mental health deferral program for burglary charges.
In February, Marvel pleaded guilty to one felony battery charge in the beating case and admitted that he had violated the terms of the mental health deferral agreement.
On Monday, Marvel was given a 6 year suspended sentence on one charge and a five year sentence on the other charge, with three years suspended and two to be served on work release. Marvel was also ordered not to have contact with the victim in the beating case and to pay restitution.
