MARSHALL, ILL. (WTHI) - With the Marshall murder suspects back in Illinois, it's still leaving the small town shocked and saddened.
Arnulfo Pacheco was found dead on Monday, July 12.
"The last time I heard him in the apartment was Sunday. He was playing his Mexican music, it was on Sunday," Arnulfo's neighbor Seeva Johnson said. "I didn't hear nothing out of the apartment Monday."
Seeva Johnson lived next door to Pacheco.
"I was home when this took place," Johnson said. "How I didn't hear anything, I'll never know."
She now remembers her neighbor and friend. A man known throughout the town.
"Very well respected in this town, has always been ever since he's been here," Johnson said. "His whole family, we loved them."
"I never seen a bad bone in his body," friend Pam Marshall said. "And for that to happen to him that was uncalled for, he didn't deserve that."
His niece, 16-year-old Maria Pacheco, and her friend, 20-year-old Jarrod Riley, both face murder charges. Police believe Riley struck Arnulfo in the head with a hammer, killing him. Now, Pacheco's neighbors want justice.
"I think they deserve whatever they get," Johnson said. "They killed him, brutally, brutally killed him."
A murder killing a neighbor and more importantly a friend.
Maria Pacheco is slated to be tried as an adult. Both she and Riley are scheduled to appear in court again August 16.
