Man arrested after visiting area prison

CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - An Indianapolis man faces three preliminary felony and one misdemeanor charge, all drug related, after his afternoon arrest at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. Jeremy Coleman, 29, along with a female companion not being charged, came to the facility to visit offender William Hutchins, 30. 

Coleman was observed acting in a suspicious manner as he shared chips and soda with the offender.  Coleman appeared to be placing items in the chip bag which were immediately swallowed by the offender.  

Custody searched the bag which was found to contain marijuana and cocaine.

Hutchins has been placed  in segregation at the maximum-security facility pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.  Hutchins is serving 60 years on Marion County Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder and Knox County Cocaine Possession convictions.  His earliest release date is November of 2032. 

After questioning by WVCF Correctional Police Officers Coleman was arrested, initially charged with three Class C Felonies;

Possession of Cocaine, Trafficking Cocaine into a Penal Facility and Trafficking a Narcotic Drug with an Inmate.  He also faces a Class A Misdemeanor, Possession of Marijuana charge.  Indiana State Police Trooper Brent Robinson transported Coleman to the Sullivan County Jail.  He is currently held under $49,000 bond.
