INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The number of methamphetamine labs in Indiana jumped to an all-time high in 2011, according to numbers released this week by Indiana State Police.

Last year, state police say 1,437 meth labs were uncovered by law enforcement. It’s a jump from the 1,395 meth labs discovered in 2010.

Vanderburgh County had the highest number of meth labs, with 72 last year. Elkhart County had the second most with 71 and Kosciusko County had the third most with 58 meth labs.

Ohio County had no meth labs, while Adams, Morgan and Switzerland counties each had only one.

In Marion County, six meth labs were uncovered.

ISP officials say the one-pot method of meth-making has grown to be the most popular method of manufacturing the drug. It involves mixing the ingredients in a 2-liter bottle or jar, and can often end in explosion or fire.

Police officials urge people who may suspect a meth lab in their area to call police.
