LAWRENCE CO., Ill. (WTHI) - Human remains discovered in a southern Illinois county were unidentified, even after an autopsy was conducted.

On November 7, the remains were found in Lawrence Co., Ill. just north of US 50.

An autopsy was performed to find cause of death and to identify the body. Unfortunately, they were unable to positively identify the remains.

However, they have now submitted DNA of the body to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis and comparison to known missing persons within the area, including Edward Hataway of Olney, Ill, who was last seen September 16, 2012.

The Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, and Olney Police Department continue to investigate.

Anyone with information regarding Edward Hataway, or the remains found, are encouraged to contact Lt. Kelly Hodge, Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations at (217) 342-2292 ext. 201.
