FAYETTE CO., Ind. (WTHI) - An Ind. couple recently sought after for illegal possession of a deer will be able to breathe lighter after the DNR requested for the charges against them to be dropped.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has decided, after a re-evaluation of a case involving the illegal possession of a deer suggested by Gov. Mike Pence, to request the charges be dropped against a Connersville couple.
The case involves Jeff and Jennifer Counceller, who took in a fawn deer in 2010 they claimed was injured. The couple refused to release the deer, even after DNR officials informed the couple it was illegal to possess a wild animal without a permit.
After a subsequent follow up, DNR officials discovered the couple to still be in possession of the deer. After that meeting, the case was turned over to the Fayette County prosecutor.
