Hospitalized Gibault teen recovers, taken to jail

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - The Indiana State Police have arrested the second Gibault juvenile suspect believed to be involved in the October 24 battery of two males and the theft of a pickup truck in Vigo County has been arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail.

The 17-year old male, currently listed as a resident of the Gibault Child Services facility in Terre Haute, but originally from Merrillville, Ind., was released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Friday afternoon and was then taken to the Vigo County Jail.

The juvenile had been hospitalized for injuries sustained when the stolen vehicle he was a passenger in, lost control and crashed while attempting to evade arrest late Monday evening.

He was preliminarily booked into the Vigo County Jail on Felony Carjacking, Felony Attempted Carjacking and Felony Resisting Law Enforcement charges. The formal charges will be filed this upcoming week in Vigo County Court.

The 17-year old driver of the truck was previously arrested on October 25 for his alleged involvement in the Battery, Carjacking, and Attempted Carjacking of two male victims and the fleeing from an Indiana State Police Trooper.

During the driver’s attempt to flee, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed on US 41 in Terre Haute.

The driver was charged in Vigo County Court this week for Felony Carjacking, Felony Attempted Carjacking and Felony Battery with Serious Bodily Injury.

A third suspect in the alleged crimes and a passenger in the stolen truck, Therlow Pope IV, age 17, of Gary, Ind., died shortly after the crash as a result of his injuries.
