Seven individuals prosecuted for roles in murder

A Wabash Valley man has been sentenced to prison time on gun charges relating to the death of a Terre Haute police officer.
On Tuesday, Federal Judge William Lawrence sentenced 48-year-old Brad Keller to 18 months in prison on charges that he possessed a firearm as a convicted felon. Keller had already pleaded guilty to that charge.
Authorities said the gun Keller is convicted of possessing was later sold and was used by Shaun Seeley in the shooting death of Terre Haute Police Officer Brent Long last July.
Six others have already been sentenced on charges relating to Officer Long’s death. Five of those sentenced were convicted of making false statements to law enforcement in connection with the events surrounding the shooting. Those five are Heather Elkins, 23, Charles Elkins, 23, Roberta Utterback, 51, Jenny Torres, 23, and Jesse Padgett, 21. Another man, Scott Griffy, also admitted to possessing the pistol used in Long’s death.
Shaun Seeley, the man authorities believe shot and killed Officer Long, also died on July 11, 2011 of a gunshot wounds authorities believe was self-inflicted.
