TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A Terre Haute man accused of severely beating his mother-in-law and father-in-law was sentenced to prison time Wednesday.
Brian Hiatt was arrested in 2009 on allegations that he severely beat Linda and Albert Liberty at a home in Pimento and threatened them with a machete.
Hiatt was arrested and charged with several felony battery charges.
In 2012, Hiatt pleaded guilty to felony charges of Aggravated Battery and Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury as part of a plea agreement.
On Tuesday, Hiatt was given a 14 year sentence, with 12 of those years to be spent in prison and two years to be suspended and spent on probation. Hiatt also received credit for more than 1,000 days already served in jail.
In written statements to the court, the victims in the case said they suffered both physical and emotional injuries from the attack.
