Drugs found on Turkey Run school bus

PARKE Co. Ind. (WTHI) - Sheriff’s investigators in Parke County are trying to figure out who dropped a sandwich bag, containing two small marijuana buds, in the aisle of a school bus carrying students to Turkey Run Jr. – Sr. High School.

“I’ll be relieved to find out it wasn’t one of our students,” said Bill Chestnut, assistant principal at the school.

He said the bus last Tuesday morning was populated mostly with Kindergarten kids, as well as seventh, eighth, and ninth graders en route to the K through 12 school.

The chief deputy at the Parke County Sheriff’s Department explained what marijuana buds are.

“When they pick the material from the plant, sometimes they’ll get some bud material in there that you don’t actually smoke that,” said Bill Todd. “So, that’s left in the bag with some plant debris.”

Deputy Todd believes the small baggie might’ve been dropped by a high school student; school leaders on the other hand have a hunch a parent inadvertently dropped it while rushing on-board that morning.

“The bus driver explained that a parent did actually run out because that child had forgotten some books,” recalled assistant principal Chestnut.

Chestnut said that school bus is equipped with a video camera, but its aim is such that the area immediately around the bus driver’s seat, where the bag was located, is out of lens range.
