DAVIESS CO., Ind. (WTHI) - On Saturday night, Belinda Smith was traveling southbound on S.R. 57 in a pickup truck with three passengers: Tangelia Hunt, 39, and two children ages 4 and newborn, when she started struggling with an asthma attack and was unable to breathe.
Smith attempted to pull into the driveway of 5557 N. Hwy. 57, lost control and ran off the roadway on the right side into a large ditch, struck the embankment of the driveway at the residence.
The pickup came to a complete halt, as Hunt was partially ejected through the windshield, sustaining severe damage to her face and head.
Hunt and the two minors were transported to Daviess Community ER by Southwest Medical.
Smith traveled with Southwest, because she was the caregiver for the minor children injured in the crash.
Smith submitted to a chemical test, and tested positive.
Once at the ER, another witness stated that she observed the truck driving all over the roadway about 6-8 miles north of where the crash occurred.
Smith was charged with three counts of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated-Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.
