TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Two Terre Haute men are accused of intentionally setting a house on fire with two other people inside.

Buddy Williams and Jimmy Hair appeared in a Vigo County Courtroom for an initial preliminary cause hearing.

Investigators said it all started at a house on Maple Avenue in Terre Haute one month ago.

They said Jimmy Hair and Buddy Williams were at the house with another man and a woman.

When the man and woman went upstairs officials said Hair and Williams became angry.

That's when firefighters believe the suspects set the house on fire. Arson investigator Norm Loudermilk testified that Hair and Williams blocked all the exits trapping the others upstairs.

With no other escape, the two jumped out of the second story window and were injured.

Williams and Hair were preliminarily charged with "arson causing injury"

However, prosecutors have 72 hours to decide if they'll stay with that charge, or if they'll change it to "attempted murder."

They said it depends on which charge they believe they can prove in court.
