FOUNTAIN CO., Ind. (WTHI) - On Sunday afternoon, Fountain County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene of a hit-and-run accident that killed a man on CR 200 S.

An initial investigation revealed that a red Ford Explorer was traveling east bound on CR 200 S., when the driver failed to yield the right-of-way to a motorcycle. The Ford Explorer struck the motorcycle, killed Sam Abernathy, 70, of Covington, Ind., and fled the scene.

Hours later, Deputies received a tip that the Explorer might be located a residence in Veedersburg. They were able to locate the suspected vehicle, and interviewed family members of the owner of the vehicle, and obtained enough information to secure a warrant.

Deputies arrested Brandin D. Bacon of Cayuga, Ind., charged with Failure to Stop After an Accident Resulting in Death.

At this time, Bacon is being held at the Fountain County Jail on $15,000 bond.
