TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The six people charged in connection with the shooting death of Terre Haute Police Officer Brent Long appeared in a federal courtroom Wednesday morning for their initial hearing.
Heather Elkins, Charles Elkins, Roberta Utterback, Jenny Torres and Jesse Padgett all face charges of making false statements" to federal agents.
Their charges face a maximum of 5 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and 3 years of supervised release.
Scott Griffy is facing three different charges, all stemming from being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm as well as the unlawful sale of a firearm.
His charges could put him in prison for up to 30 years as well as a fine.
Even though they all still face some state charges, everyone except Jesse Padgett will remain in federal custody for the time being.
Padgett was able to make bond on his state charges and the federal court did not detain him.
A judge had previously entered a not guilty plea for all of the defendants.
The federal court set their jury trial for October 31st of this year.
