VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Officials have just confirmed that Wbaldo Ramirez has been caught and is currently being held in a detention center in Elk River, Minnesota.
Wbaldo Ramirez was on the run since June when officials said he was involved in a home invasion in Pimento, Indiana.
Ramirez was captured and arrested under an assumed name in West Fargo, North Dakota. Police say he was just 100 miles south of the Canadian border.
It all happened during what police believe was a routine traffic stop. Officials said Rameriz told police he was an illegal immigrant and wanted to be deported to Mexico immediately. Police then took him taken into custody at a detention center in Elk Creek, Minnesota.
It wasn't until he was finger printed there did police realize he was wanted in Vigo County.
"As he sits up there he's to be deported back to Mexico, but they've put a detainer on him in because of our proceedings," Vigo County Sheriff Jon Marvel said.
Ramirez was being sought by the Vigo County and Allen County police for warrants.
Ramirez is believed to be the front seat passenger in the Ford Explorer driven by Eddie Wayne Grisham.
Grisham was the driver of the vehicle that attempted to run down two Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies, and had been the focus of an extensive manhunt, along with Ramirez for the last month.
Grisham was arrested on July 27 at the Vincennes Econolodge, and is currently in the Vigo County Jail on a $75,000.00 cash only bond.
One other suspect, Antonio Rodriguez, was arrested at the scene on June 28 and also remains in the Vigo County Jail on a $75,000.00 cash only bond.
Ramirez is expected to appear in a Minnesota courtroom Wednesday for an extradition hearing.
No word yet on when Ramirez may be brought back to Indiana.
