TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Boy Scouts of America is considering allow homosexual members into their private club.
The discussion comes after years of being questioned for their stance on their exclusion of those with certain sexual orientations.
The organization fought in front of the Supreme Court in 2000, defending their right to include and exclude individuals of their choosing based on whatever they deem appropriate as a private club.
A council of volunteers on the organizations national executive board will discuss the topic next week. They're expected to consider ending their ban on gays and instead move towards a troop to troop decision, based on their chartered organizations beliefs and opinions. This would leave the decision to include or exclude a person based on sexual orientation up to each group.
One local charter organization told News 10 they let every boy who shows interest into their troop, regardless of their orientation.
