TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Air Pollution Department in Vigo County may soon get a makeover.
The state of Indiana will no longer fund county air pollution departments starting in 2010. Air quality will be monitored by state officials.
The Vigo County Air Pollution Department proposed to the Heath Department Board to keep monitoring and maintaining the quality of air in the county. The Health Department Board endorsed this proposal.
Officials said the next step is to hire two inspectors and an administrative assistant from the current Air Pollution Department.
"I prefer to retain those that already work there as environmental inspectors. That will save us from training people. It will also provide for the continuity of the service," Vigo County Health Commissioner Enrico I. Garcia said.
The proposal is slated now to go in front of the Vigo County council.
