Southern power plant affects Vigo Co.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - The Edwardsport Duke Energy Power Plant is having a positive effect on Vigo County.

The local IBEW in Terre Haute is supplying electricians for the project. The plant will need about 300 electricians during the peak of construction.

Officials with the local IBEW say the power plant is helping Vigo County out because workers from Terre Haute are traveling down there. Plus, since they are making more money they will be spending more.

"When Duke Energy sought to do this, they saw the need to have enough qualified skilled workers so they approached the unions and we signed an agreement with them to supply them manpower," Local IBEW 725 Todd Thacker said.
