Man behind bars after fatal accident

Update: One man is now behind bars in connection with a fatal traffic accident.

On Monday, John Buchanan, 19, of West Terre Haute was killed on Highway 150 in Edgar County, Illinois.

Police say a vehicle driven by Michael D. Russell, crossed the center line and struck another  vehicle.  Buchanan was a passenger in Russell's vehicle.

On Tuesday, Indiana State Police arrested Russell for driving under the influence of drugs, aggravated DUI and involuntary manslaughter.

Russell is being held in the Edgar County Jail.

A teen is dead following a Monday afternoon crash in Edgar County, Illinois.

It happened a little before 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 150 and 1900 Street.

Police say a westbound vehicle crossed the center line, striking an eastbound vehicle head-on.

A passenger in the westbound vehicle, John E. Buchanan Jr., 19, of West Terre Haute died in the crash.

The drivers of both vehicles and another passenger were taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute.

An investigation continues.
