It's that time of year again: the beginning of cold and flu season.  And on today's healthy Living, we'll check in with Hoosiers Prescription Shop so you will be more prepared if, or when, it hits your home.

Ashok Patel explains.  “To prevent the flu, you have to make sure that patients get some precautions.  Have some sanitizer, tissues.  If you sneeze, cover the nose, mouth.  If you cough, cover the mouth.  And stay away from the people that already have the flu at least 10 feet away from them and to not breath any of the air that comes close to them.

“When you have the flu, you will experience a fever, probably around 101, body aches, headaches, chills, fatigue, chest discomfort, coughing, runny nose and stuffy nose and sore throat.

“The flu season starts in the fall and the vaccinations start in the fall because once you get the vaccination, before the flu virus started, that protects you from getting the flu. The vaccine is called the influenza vaccine.  It can be injected.  It is an inactive virus.  And it does not cause any flu.  And that will prepare your body to fight against the flu virus.  And it protects you for the whole season.

“It's a very good idea to go ahead and get the vaccination before the flu season starts and the flu hits you, you hit them.

“If anyone has any questions about flu vaccines or any cold and flu questions they can always call us at the Hoosiers Prescription Shop at 812-232-9646 and talk to the pharmacist.  Or stop by and visit us and we can help them out.  Any sickness they get in this cold season, we'll help them out.”
