TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - September 3 through September 9

Prepared Childbirth Class. This popular series of six classes offers couples professional instruction and guidance to prepare for the childbirth experience. The classes focus on relaxation and breathing techniques for better concentration during labor and delivery. You will also learn the role of the labor partner, discuss routine hospital procedures, receive information on birth options and medications for labor and take a tour of the maternity unit. This series of six classes begins Tuesday, September 4 from 7 to 9 p.m., 3rd floor of the Professional Office Building, 1530 N. 7th St. For more information or to register, call Union Hospital at 812-478-4137. RTS Bereavement Services. Support group to help families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, tubal pregnancy, stillbirth or newborn death. Please join us from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4 for our program on “Another Pregnancy? Maybe?” This support group will meet at Landsbaum Center in classroom 3; located at 1433 N. 6 ½ St. For more information, call Sue Hoopengarner, RN, Union Hospital at 812-238-4978.

Journeys Support Group. Hospice of the Wabash Valley presents Journeys, a bereavement support group. Journeys meets at the Vigo County Public Library on Tuesday, September 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, call Jack Brockman at 812-234-2515.

Farmer’s Market. The Downtown Terre Haute Farmer’s Market will be on Union Hospital’s campus every Tuesday evening through the growing season. The market is open to the public from 4 to 7 p.m. on the parking lot at 8th Avenue and Lafayette.

Transform in 12. Union Hospital Outpatient Nutrition Center and the Center for Fitness and Performance invite you to join a 12-week transforming weight loss program. The program includes: education about weight loss, personalized meal plan, membership to the fitness center, personal training sessions, weekly weigh-in, measurements and Monday evening meetings. September 10 through September 16

L.I.F.E. Cancer Support Group. Please join us for this cancer support group meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 10. The support group meets in the Beech Street Conference Room located on the lower level of the Hux Cancer Center, 1711 N. 6 ½ St. To register for this support group, call 812-238-7957.

Breast-Feeding Class. This class offers new and expectant parents information, support and instruction on breast-feeding. Nursing infants are welcome. Types and use of breast pumps and the collection and storage of breast milk will also be discussed. The next class is from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12. The meeting will be on the 3rd floor of the Union Hospital Professional Office Building, 1530 N. 7th St. For more information or to register, call 812-238-4985.

The Joy of Healthy Eating. This 3 ½ hour workshop will help participants understand the use of whole foods to prepare healthy meals. The program on Saturday, September 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is sponsored by the Maple Center for Integrative Health and Union Hospital. September 17 through September 23

Stroke Support Group for Survivors and Family. Come to Union Hospital’s support group and learn how to live your best life after a stroke! If you or a family member have experienced a stroke and are interested in learning more about how to address the physical, mental and emotional changes, join us for our next support group meeting 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 20. This support group meets the third Thursday of every month in the Medical Rehab Unit, 4th Floor of Union West, 8th Avenue entrance, 1606 N. 7th St. The educational support group meetings are designed to allow people who have experienced a stroke to share their experiences and lend support throughout the recovery process. Pre-Diabetes Class. Has your doctor diagnosed you with pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance? Do you need help meal planning? We can help! SPOHNC. Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer holds monthly meetings that offer information, support and encouragement to newly diagnosed patients, survivors, family members and friends in a friendly and non-threatening forum. The group meets Tuesday, September 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the Union

Big Brother-Big Sister. If you have children 3 to 10 years old, this special class can help prepare them for the arrival of a new baby. Big brothers and big sisters tour the area where mothers and babies stay and participate in several activities that help ease fears and answer questions about their mother’s hospital stay. The group meets on Wednesday, September 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Union Hospital West Lobby to begin the program. For more information or to register, call 812-478-4137.

Blood Drive, sponsored by Union Hospital on Wednesday, September 19 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Blood Drive will be in the Atrium, lower level of Union East. Put us on your calendar. Spend an hour and save a life.

Volleyball for the Small. Join Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South at the 4th Annual Volleyball for the Small on Thursday, September 20, to benefit the Union Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. T-shirts can be purchased in the Union Hospital Foundation or in the Union Hospital gift shops. T-shirts waive game day entry fee and support the NICU Family Assistance Fund. Dr. Stephen Fern will discuss advances in treatment for hip pain at the Landsbaum Center for Health Education on Tuesday, September 25 at 6 p.m. This program in free, but registration is required.
