TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - According to The American Lung Association, Indiana and Illinois receive poor grades when it comes to the number of people who smoke.
However, both states are trying to increase ways for people to kick the habit. In fact, Union Hospital in Terre Haute is kicking off its Beat the Pack program.
This is a four week cessation program using support, counseling and education to help you stop smoking.
"Research shows that it takes about 7 or 8 times of actually quitting smoking before you finally, totally kick the habit," said Marilyn Byrd with Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
Byrd said even if you've smoked for years, by quitting, you can still improve your health.
The four week class is free and open to the public. Meetings are every week for about 30 to 45 minutes.
Meeting dates and times will vary. If you'd like to learn more information about this you can call Marilyn at 812-238-7277.
