TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Union Hospital celebrates a milestone in robotic surgery.
A December procedure marked the 1,000th surgery by the DaVinci Robot.
It’s capable of doing several prosthetic operations, as well as other surgeries.
Doctors say using the robot is much more accurate, allowing for less blood loss and a much shorter recovery time.
“With a robot, we are actually improving their care, allowing them to have it done in our community, instead of going elsewhere, and statistically things are improved with this kind of technology,” Dr. Douglas Claybrook from Union Hospital said.
The very first procedure was performed in August 2007.
