TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Our good friends over at WTHI HI-99 Radio worked hard to raise money for a children’s research hospital.
Thursday and Friday, they were down at Honey Creek Mall asking for your donations for their annual Saint Jude Radiothon. This was the 22nd year for HI-99.
Throughout the two days and up until 7:00 p.m. Friday, they broadcasted live from Honey Creek Mall.
Saint Jude's Children Research Hospital is the largest medical center in the United State for research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other diseases.
In two decades, HI-99 has donated more than $1.2 million to St. Jude's.
“One of the questions we get is, ‘Why do we do this for St. Jude's, but not local hospitals?’ This does benefit [the local hospitals], because St. Jude's freely shares all their resources and protocol with any hospital in the United States, and throughout the world,” said HI-99 disk jockey, Eric Michaels.
With your contributions, HI-99 were able to exceed their goal of $40,000. To sweeten the deal, they promised to shave their heads in honor of beating that goal.
By the end of the radiothon on Friday, the HI-99 crew were able to raise $45,508.
