According to the American Red Cross, 1 in 4 people have been in a situation where someone needs CPR, but less than half remember all the steps to perform it.
That's why the organization came out with an additional life saving technique called Hands-Only CPR.
Now anyone can help in an emergency situation by giving chest compressions only until help arrives.
"It's not a replacement for full CPR which is compressions and rescue breaths. It's just an additional way that people, who haven't taken a class, can help if they find themselves in an emergency situation," said Kellie Farnsworth with the Wabash Valley chapter of the American Red Cross.
Hands-only CPR is geared towards cardiac emergencies like a heart attack.
If you're in this situation, you first need to call 911.
Then, ask if the person is okay and check for breathing by holding your face close to their mouth or see if their chest is moving.
If not, start compressions by interlocking your hands on top of each other and pressing about two inches deep into their chest.
The Red Cross said you need to do 100 compressions a minute until help arrives.
They actually suggest using the Bee Gee's song, "Stayin Alive," to help you stay on a beat so you can give the correct amount" of compressions.
If you'd like more information about both types of CPR classes, you can go to www.redcross.org for a demo video.
