TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Regional Hospital is honoring one of its own, while remembering another.

Mary Easter was the first recipient for the first ever Soaring Miles Above Award.

The new award is given in honor of the late Chuck Miles, and the legacy he left behind and recognizes a non-nursing employee that provides exceptional work.

"It's humbling for our family and it’s an honor and I’m sure she feels the same way," Trent Miles said. Trent is the son of Chuck Miles.

"Wow, it's really an outstanding honor and he was so respected here. Everyone just loved him; so the whole family's remarkable people," Mary Easter said.

Chuck Miles died in 2007.

He served as a board member for the Vigo Co. School Board, Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, Terre Haute Children's Museum, Vigo Co. Education Foundation and was a Terre Haute City Council member for many years.

Regional Hospital looks forward to giving out the award to deserving employees for years to come.
