(CNN) - A 19-year old Marine from Wisconsin lost his feet during a roadside blast in Afghanistan last month. But he plans to walk through the door when he comes home for Christmas.

Lance Corporal Josh Wege was fitted for prosthetic feet at Walter Reed Hospital. Wege is back on his feet for the first time in more than a month, or as he calls them his new "Robo-Feet".

“It didn't really feel like awkward - like it felt like it was supposed to be, like yeah okay, I’m finally here I’m upright again.” Josh said.

In fact, Josh says while he started on the parallel bars, already he's using crutches, and he hopes to ditch those soon too.

“For him to be up walking at this point, much less standing, much less able to communicate with us is the grace of God.”

The family paved the gravel driveway in front of their garage, and Josh's room will now be on the first floor, but they will not have a ramp in the front.

“He told me, dad i don't want the ramps, I don't want to be in my chair when I’m at home, I’m going to walk through the door at xmas and that's kind of the end of the story.”

It's the story of an inspirational young man.

“Obviously I didn't want this to happen to me but it still happened and you have to accept that and I know that God's got plans for me.”
