VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) - Indiana officials told Vincennes University to trim $5 million off its spending.

University officials say one place they hope to make cuts is in energy.
VU has set a goal for reducing it's more than $4 million energy bill by 20 percent.

The university put a long term employee in charge of the plan.

"We need first of all as an institution to be mindful of energy usage and number two, and equally important, we need to be looking at cost," VU President Dr. Richard Helton said.

"First I think we will approach the common sense idea, turn off things that are not needed, evaluate what equipment that we have and whether that's efficient," VU Director of Energy Conservation said.

VU officials said the energy cutting efforts will involve all of its campuses.
