TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - It's mowing season again, it may surprise you to learn that lawnmowers are some of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gasses.

So, how can you make your lawnmower pollute less?

Scott Conrad believes converting gas mowers to propane is the answer.

"My company offers conversions on commercial mowing equipment,” said Conrad. “From gas to propane, as long as it's a 4-cycle engine, we can convert it."

Authorities say that every two hours of weekly mowing with propane over a season is equal to taking one car off the road.

"A small engine really is harmful to the environment,” says Conrad. “The EPA estimates an hour-to-hour mower output will put out the equivalent of a car driving 200 miles!"

The advantages include:

  • The change can cost as little as $450 dollars
  • You'll have lower fuel costs
  • Double the engine life
  • 94% of propane is produced right here in the good ol' USA
