Future facility separates recyclables from trash

BRAZIL, Ind (WTHI) - A Brazil business plans to go green by adding a new facility that will help separate customers recyclables from their garbage. But before the new program can start IDEM has to approve the businesses permit.

Wallace Brothers Disposal and Recycling plans to sort through your trash saving recyclable materials.

Ryan Wallace, Operations Manager of Wallace Brothers Disposal and Recycling says, “We're processing 200,000 pounds of recyclable materials a month right now. With this facility we could greatly increase that amount that we’re not hauling to the landfill that we’re putting back into the market as reusable materials.”

Wallace says the idea has been in the works for four months but IDEM has to approve their permit before the idea can become a reality because a permit is needed to dump and dig through trash on the ground.

“The permit actually allows us to bring a garbage truck in and dump it on the floor and process the material there,” said Wallace.

The program uses green bags. A homeowner would place their recyclables inside the bag and outside next to their garbage for pick up. The bags would then be separated from the trash on the floor.

Wallace says the best part about the program is it wouldn’t break the bank for customers.

“Keeping the cost down and prices down for our customers is something we want to do,” said Wallace.

Wallace hopes the program will Help households go green without spending much green.

Wallace says IDEM could possibly approve the permit within the next two months.
