TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The city of Terre Haute is taking precautions against the emerald ash borer.

The tree-killing insect has already been spotted in Clay County.

Terre Haute city officials say they would be able to fight a bug infestation by injecting pesticide underneath the bark.

The cost per tree would be around $40.

"The treatment cost is relatively inexpensive but it has to be repeated every three years to keep the tree alive,” Chuck Ennis, Engineer for the city of Terre Haute said.

The city would be able to treat 50% of the ash trees focusing mainly on Ohio Boulevard and Wabash Avenue areas.

For more information on the plan, you can attend a meeting Tuesday evening at 7:00pm. It is being held at the Vigo County Public Library.
