TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - One Wabash Valley business is improving its energy use to help save money and the environment.
Advics Manufacturing Senior Manager Doug Heck knows reducing energy use can reduce cost for the company and savings for consumers.
"I think all companies are always researching and trying to find the best avenues to get utility reductions to affect their bottom line in a positive manner,” said Heck.
But Heck said he wants to help the environment at the same time.
So company leaders decided to partner with Energizing Indiana.
Energizing Indiana is a company that helps businesses and homes save energy. Together, they figured out a way to cut energy costs.
They started a lighting initiative by replacing the original lights in their building with high-efficient lights.
Advic saved 64 percent in electrical costs in 7 months compared to all last year.
At the same time, the plant gets 20 percent more light.
Not only does this initiative help reduce their bottom line, but it makes them more environmentally-friendly.
Reducing energy use in a large manufacturing plant is a key solution to help reduce emissions.
According to the International Energy Agency, improved energy efficiency in industrial buildings can reduce energy needs and global emissions.
And this local business wants to do its part.
“I think we all want to improve our carbon footprint and do as much as we can to help out the community and be as environmentally-friendly as we can,” said Heck.
Helping about 6,000 homes and businesses reduce energy costs and helping the environment makes Energizing Indiana feel like it has started a great journey.
“It makes me feel great. I love the fact that we’re helping people control their energy usage and reduce what they’re using, lower their bills and I think it’s great for the environment too,” said Bob Nuss, managing director of Energizing Indiana.
