Helping keep the Wabash Valley green

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Keeping the Wabash Valley clean and green is a goal of a conference held on the campus at Indiana State University.

It's called the Our Green Valley Conference, and it includes a display of fuel-efficient cars.

The conference also includes a series of discussions on topics like Reducing Industrial Waste, Using Locally-Grown Foods and Encouraging People to Walk or Ride Bikes.

One discussion focused on the Wabash Valley, and some of the efforts underway to keep it clean: including the state's Healthy Rivers Initiative.

"It's the biggest conservation initiative in Indiana's history. It's targeting over 70,000 acres along the entire Wabash River corridor. The more impact that program has, the better it'll be for the environment, for people and for wildlife," said Josh Griffin with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

This conference is the second in the past two years.

It runs through Saturday.
