What the iPhone 5 hype is all about

Wednesday was the day tech enthusiasts have been waiting for, the reveal of the iPhone 5.

As with almost all of Apple's products, the public knew very little before Wednesday's conference.

Probably the biggest change is the look of the new phone. It's taller, thinner, and lighter.

The iPhone 5 has a 4 inch screen compared to the 3.5 inch screen for the iPhone 4 and 4s.

This iPhone will have LTE capabilities, which will allow the device to access 4G speeds: something many hoped would be part of the last release.

The phone also runs on Apple's newest processor, the A6 chip, which the company says will increase the phone's speed.

Another big plus is an improved camera. The new camera has a better filter producing more fine-tuned photos. The phone also include the option for panoramic pictures.

Facetime, a video calling feature, now works without wireless internet as well.

New technology also allows for slightly better battery life.

If you get the new phone, don't expect to use your old iPhone charger. The new charging dock is smaller than the old one.

For the avid Apple consumer, pre-orders start September 14.

The phone will be in stores on September 21 with a starting price just under $200.

At Wednesday's event, Apple unveiled more than just a new iPhone.

Updates to the iPod lineup and the iPad were revealed and will be out in the coming weeks as well.

In addition, Apple revealed a new operating system, iOS 6.

This system includes updates to Siri, Apple's voice recognition software. These updates include turn-by-turn directions and the ability to ask for sports scores.
