TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Do you ever finish a day and ask yourself "where did all the time go?" For some reason, your productivity just wasn't what it could have been.
You're probably doing one of a list of things preventing you from accomplishing a full days work.
According to new research, possibly the biggest killer of productivity is social networking.
The average visit to Facebook lasts 20 minutes. If you visit three to four times per day, well, I'll let you do the math.
Seeing a notification from your choice of social media: Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, etc., stops work dead in it's tracks.
Try limiting yourself to only five or ten minutes throughout the day and then getting back to business.
Social media isn't the only distracter. Thanks to technology, everything that was once limited to your computer is now available in the palm of your hand.
If you're constantly looking down to check text messages, that means you're not looking at that report that needs to be filed.
Don't worry, your friends will understand if you don't reply about going to a movie this weekend until after you get off work.
While it sounds simple, one of the best ways to get tasks done is staying on task.
If you focus on completing one assignment before starting another, you'll soon find more work gets done.
Believe it or not, posture plays a big role in productivity. Sitting correctly will keep you more comfortable, which will help you work. Sitting in an ergonomic chair will certainly help.
Any time not thinking about pain is time you can spend thinking about work.
Finally, stay organized. Wasting time looking for that important document is just that, time wasted.
Keeping your workspace neat and clean will help you locate what you need quick and easily.
Even on your computer, arranging folders in ways you'll remember them will increase productivity.
So while technology can be great, just make sure you're in control of it and not the other way around.
