TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The holidays are still weeks away, but big stores are starting to prepare now with seasonal hires.
Last year, the U.S. Department of Labor said close to 500,000 jobs were added due to seasonal hires.
This year, that number could be even higher.
Kohls has already announced that they plan to hire 52,700 workers for seasonal positions. That equals out to 41 positions per store.
Other big stores that hire include Walmart, Toys "R" Us, and other retail giants.
"It's really nice for those businesses to hire seasonal individuals for a two to three month period, a sixth month period, versus having a large workforce for the whole entire year," said Stefani Lintzenich, operations manager at CoWorx.
The jobs usually go from now until the end of December, with peak time being the biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday.
The types of jobs are endless.
"They can range anywhere from part time to full time hours, days, evenings, weekends, holidays; so there's a mixture and variety of hours available," said Lintzenich.
This makes these jobs perfect for students or anybody who wants work.
On top of it all, it could give anyone a little extra spending money this holiday season.
